HomePod will not turn on

You plug it in and nothing happens. No light, no sound, and the Home app cannot see it. On a HomePod 1st gen this is the most common fault, and nearly always a power diode is behind it. We repair it right on the board, nothing else has to be replaced.

  • Few shops repair the HomePod 1st gen. We do
  • Diagnostics 490 Kč, board repair from 3,990 Kč
  • Done in 5 to 10 days, Příkop 27b

This is where the diode most often fails.

Try this first

  1. Plug it into a different socket, ideally directly, without an extension lead.
  2. Leave it unplugged for a minute and plug it back in. If nothing lights up on top at all, it is most likely the power circuit.
  3. Then bring it in or send it. Diagnostics are usually ready by the next day.

What not to do: Do not open it yourself. The HomePod is glued shut, and a cable or a board connector inside tears easily while opening it. The repair then costs more.

How we repair it

  1. Open the HomePod

We remove the top panel, take out the woofer and get to the power board. The HomePod is glued, so this takes patience.

  2. Find the short

We measure the power board. When a HomePod will not turn on at all, there is usually a short in the power circuit, and most often the diode is behind it.

  3. Replace the diode

We desolder the failed diode and solder in a new one. Then we measure again to confirm the short is gone.

  4. Check the rest of the power circuit

We also measure the capacitors and the parts around them. Anything worn we replace right away, so the HomePod does not come back in a few months.

  5. Reassemble and let it play

We put the HomePod back together, connect it to Wi-Fi and let it play. Only then do we tell you it is ready.
